Precision Watch Repair & Horological Maintenance | Airmont, NY & Nationwide Mail-In

A fine timepiece is an engineering achievement, an expression of personal style, and often a cherished heirloom. Whether you wear a modern luxury automatic, a vintage mechanical chronograph, or a sentimental quartz watch, internal lubrication breaks down over time, rubber gaskets degrade, and external links experience wear.

Motek Jewelry Design Studio applies master bench craftsmanship and diagnostic oversight to timepiece repair, mechanical overhauls, and cosmetic case restorations. We serve clients locally at our Airmont, NY studio (serving Monsey, Suffern, Spring Valley, and Rockland County) and nationwide through our secure, fully insured mail-in service.

Expert Horological Services

Swiss Battery Replacement & Gasket Inspection

A depleted battery should never remain inside a quartz movement, as battery leakage can release corrosive acid that destroys delicate circuitry.

  • Installation of fresh, premium Swiss energy cells (Renata).

  • Cleaning of internal battery contact points and terminal blocks.

  • Microscopic inspection and silicone re-lubrication of the case-back gasket.

  • Alignment and case-back reseating to protect against airborne moisture and dust.

Mechanical & Automatic Movement Overhaul

Mechanical and automatic watches rely on hundreds of microscopic gears, balance springs, and synthetic ruby jewels operating under tight tolerances. When factory oils dry into abrasive sludge, internal friction causes amplitude drop, timing errors, or complete gear-train stoppage.

  • Complete Disassembly: Stripping the movement down to its base plates, bridges, wheels, and escapement.

  • Multi-Stage Ultrasonic Cleaning: Removing dried oils, microscopic metal debris, and gummed residue across specialized cleaning baths.

  • Synthetic Re-Lubrication & Assembly: Rebuilding the caliber using specialized Swiss synthetic lubricants (Moebius) applied in microscopic quantities to high-friction jewels, pivots, and pallets.

  • Electronic Calibration: Regulating the escapement and hairspring across multiple positions using digital timegraphers to optimize daily rate (+/- seconds per day), amplitude, and beat error.

Watch Crystal Replacement (Sapphire, Mineral & Acrylic)

A chipped or shattered crystal compromises aesthetic clarity and allows ambient humidity and dust to damage the watch hands and dial.

  • Synthetic Sapphire: Extreme scratch resistance and optical clarity with optional anti-reflective (AR) coatings.

  • Hardened Mineral Glass: Direct factory-spec replacements for standard modern watches.

  • Vintage Acrylic / Hesalite: Precision-buffed or replaced with period-correct tension-ring acrylics for vintage chronographs and mid-century timepieces.

Bracelet, Clasp & Link Repair

  • Precision link removal, addition, and wrist sizing.

  • Replacement of bent or worn pins with heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant stainless steel spring bars.

  • Clasp micro-adjustments, deployant safety catch reinforcement, and hinge re-alignment.

  • Sourcing and custom fitting of fine leather, vulcanized rubber, and milanese mesh straps.

Precision Case & Bracelet Refinishing

Over years of regular wear, stainless steel, solid gold, and platinum cases accumulate surface scuffs and micro-dents.

  • Ultrasonic multi-stage cleaning to remove embedded grime and skin oils from bracelet links.

  • Precision hand-lapping, satin-brushing, high-polishing, or matte bead-blasting.

  • Restoration executed strictly to preserve sharp case chamfers, crisp bevels, and original manufacturer geometries without over-polishing.

Horological Policies, Disclaimers & Protection Terms

  • Video Verification: Live video unboxing verifies the physical condition and contents of every package upon studio arrival.

  • Packaging Responsibility: Mail-in clients must provide a solid outer box with ample bubble wrap. Never ship timepieces in soft paper mailers or bubble envelopes.

  • Water Resistance Disclaimer: While modern watches are pressure-tested to manufacturer tolerances, vintage watches or pieces with deep case corrosion, pitting, or compromised pushers cannot be guaranteed waterproof once delivered.

  • Scope of Service & Warranty: Overhauls and repairs are completed strictly according to the agreed written scope. Pre-existing internal rust, prior third-party modifications, aftermarket dials, or impact shock from daily wear are not covered. Please see our Warranty Policy for specific coverage details.

  • Specialty Insurance Recommendation: Outbound shipments are insured during transit up to declared value. We strongly recommend maintaining independent watch insurance (such as Jewelers Mutual) to protect fine timepieces against theft, loss, or accidental damage during everyday wear.
